Synopsis

Spring 1943.

In the mountains of neutral Sweden, trust has become a dangerous luxury.

Signe Rask has spent two years learning that lesson. Living alone on an isolated farm, she avoids questions, keeps her distance from neighbors, and relies on no one but herself.

Then the sky erupts in fire.

When an Allied aircraft crashes in the forest near her home, Signe discovers an injured American paratrooper hanging from the trees. Helping him could bring German soldiers to her door. Leaving him behind could condemn him to die.

Corporal Griff Pennington never expected to survive the jump. Wounded, stranded, and far from the mission that brought him to Europe, he soon realizes that neutral Sweden is not as neutral as it appears. Loyalties are uncertain. Secrets move quietly through the borderlands. Even those offering help may have reasons to hide the truth.

Forced together by circumstance, Signe and Griff must depend on one another to survive.

Yet both carry wounds deeper than the war itself.
