For Eby, every story begins with a question.
Eby Johnson is an Appalachian author, educator, international speaker, and storyteller whose work spans fantasy, historical fiction, suspense, and inspirational fiction.
For Eby, stories do not begin with characters or plots. They begin with questions that refuse to leave her alone.
Questions That Started Stories
What would happen if a Swedish border patrol discovered an injured woman in the snow during World War II?
How many words does a person get before silence becomes permanent?
How do you defeat a shapeshifter whose alternate form is a tree?
What happens when loyalty, faith, and survival collide?
Those questions eventually become novels.
Research Behind the Stories
Finding answers often leads Eby deep into research.
She has spent weeks studying wartime Sweden, Scandinavian weather patterns, historical rail systems, military procedures, and countless small details that help transform a question into a believable world.
Whether researching how snow falls in the Swedish mountains, how communication traveled through a telegraph office, or what natural substances could kill a tree centuries ago, she believes the smallest details often make stories feel real.
Themes That Matter
Across genres, Eby's stories explore:
• Courage
• Loyalty
• Faith
• Resilience
• Sacrifice
• The choices people make when faced with impossible circumstances
Her goal is simple: to create stories that ask meaningful questions and stay with readers long after the final page.
Beyond the Books
When she isn't teaching, speaking, researching, or writing, Eby can usually be found surrounded by books, notebooks, coffee, and far more story ideas than hours in the day.
She currently has multiple completed manuscripts and is seeking literary representation for several upcoming projects.
