Synopsis

For Huldah, life should finally be settling into something resembling happiness. Surrounded by friends, carrying the child she once feared she might never have, and building a future with Metzil, she hopes the worst is finally behind her.

She is wrong.

When a mission tied to the restoration of former slaves takes her far from home, weeks turn into months. Across fractured territories still scarred by war, Huldah witnesses the difficult realities of freedom, displacement, and recovery. Families must be reunited. Communities must be rebuilt. Wounds—both physical and emotional—must somehow heal.

Meanwhile, Metzil faces challenges of his own as he learns that loving Huldah means standing beside her rather than shielding her. Together they discover that marriage is not simply surviving hardship, but facing it as partners.
